Sustainability
Uniform that lasts is where sustainability starts
We think about sustainability across how our garments are designed and made, and about the wider impact of our business. It begins with schoolwear that's built for years of wear, not one.
Our commitment
Sustainability isn't a single project. It runs through how our uniform is designed, made and worn, and how our business behaves
Carbon neutral business - since 2012
A standing commitment, supported by carbon offsetting and awareness of our energy use and waste.
In practice
Where we act
Five ways sustainability shows up in Trutex schoolwear, from the cloth we choose to how long a garment stays in use.
-
01
Durable uniform
Garments designed to survive years of school days, so they're replaced less often.
-
02
Responsibly sourced fabrics
Materials chosen with sourcing responsibility in mind.
-
03
Carbon offsetting
Part of how we've operated as a carbon neutral business since 2012.
-
04
Energy and waste awareness
Attention to the energy we use and the waste we create.
-
05
Stain repellency
Finishes that help uniform stay presentable through repeated wear and washing.
Built to last
The most sustainable uniform is the one that lasts
Trutex schoolwear is made to keep up with real school life and to keep its shape, colour and finish through it all.
- Everyday school life
- Playground activity
- Repeated washing
Materials
Fabrics chosen with care
We source fabrics responsibly and pay attention to what our garments are made from. Where polyester is used, our recycled-polyester story turns plastic bottles into hard-wearing schoolwear.
- Responsibly sourced
- Recycled polyester
Plastics
Action on plastics
Our recycled polyester is made from 100% recycled plastic bottles, giving plastic a long second life as hard-wearing schoolwear.
We're also working to reduce single-use plastics across the business, and to reduce fibre shedding from our garments while keeping their quality and comfort.
14 million
plastic bottles saved from landfill in 2020 through recycled polyester.
Corporate responsibility
Part of a wider responsibility
Our environmental commitments sit within Trutex's wider corporate and social responsibility, the ethical and social standards we hold ourselves to as a business. The full picture is set out in our CSR report.
